If you love the outdoors and working with kids, Camp Fletcher may be the perfect place for you! Working at a summer camp is hard work, but it's worth the effort. You'll leave camp with unique skills, new best friends, and a ton of great memories. Our campers and staff become a community, and we work hard to insure that everyone is having a fantastic summer camp experience. From leadership experience, team building exercises and more, our counselors gain important life skills from their first day of training to the last day of camp. Our counselors have FUN, but they also learn a lot about their skills and their passions. A summer at camp is truly an experience you'll never forget.

About Camp Fletcher

Since 1926, Camp Fletcher has been a place for young people to challenge themselves, discover the natural environment and develop new skills. Participants can experience the history as well as the beauty of the natural world around them in a safe and fun environment. Camp Fletcher is owned and operated by Camp Fire Alabama. Camp operates 9 months of the year with traditional day, resident and leadership camps in the summer, outdoor educational experiences for students in public, private, and home-schools in the spring and fall, and facility rental for all types of groups from March to October. 

Location

Camp Fletcher is located in Jefferson County Alabama, 5 miles from Exit 1, I-459 in McCalla, AL. Our 300 acre site includes hiking trails and access to Shades Creek. It is conveniently located outside of Birmingham, Alabama.

Requirements

Summer staff must be at least 18 years old and able to commit the entire summer (June - August). Counselors are carefully chosen for their leadership skills and interest in child development. All staff members are required to have a criminal background check, a multi-panel drug test, and must participate in an extensive training program following the American Camping Association and Camp Fire's policies and guidelines.

Available Positions

Counselor: Lead, guide, and provide activity leadership for day or resident campers, ages 6 - 17. Assist campers with group living and personal development. Counselors need experience in the outdoors and working with children.

Kitchen Staff: Assist with meal preperation, service and cleaning. Must receive ServSafe Certification and previous food handling experience is preferred. 

Lifeguards: Hourly employees lead and supervise water activities including swiming and canoeing. Lifeguard certification is required and previous experience is preferred. 

Salary and Benefits

Camp counselors are paid a weekly rate for all camp sessions worked from May 30 - July 28; rates vary depending on position. Food and lodging is provided for counselors in addition to at least two hours off each full day of camp. Perks include free laundry, fresh air and a beautiful setting. Hourly employees are part-time employees paid an hourly wage with weekly scheduled shifts.

Summer Schedule

Most positions start on May 30 and end July 28. All staff are expected to be available the full season, including training weeks, tenatively scheduled for the last two weeks in May. Time off must be requested prior to hire.
